Ryan Heywood

September 30, 2009

Whether he’s designing threads for surf heads, or photographing his mates on relic cameras, 27 year old artist Ryan Heywood has an eye for angles, levels and detail that escape the normal human being.

Quads, Logs & Twinnys.

September 30, 2009

Sea Surfboards is a Byron Bay company, founded by two local surfers – Dain Thomas and Matty Yeates. Shaper Dain, and artist Paul McNeil take the best from the history of surfboard design and give it their own unique modern twist. The messy resin tints, beautiful in imperfection, are what makes these guys so cool. But moreover, they also make clothing and host a bunch of art exhibitions in their workshop. If you’ve got a few spare pineapples in the wallet, grab a board before everyone finds out about them.

Take a deep iBreath

September 28, 2009

The iBreath lets users test their own blood alcohol content using an iPhone or an iPod Touch. Fully functional breathalyzer enables users to determine whether they’ve had one to many drinks before they get behind the wheel. The unit snaps into the base of the iPhone or iPod touch. Simply unfold and exhale into it for five seconds, and within a few seconds the iBreath digital readout lets you know whether you are too drunk to drive. Very simple, very clever, very heaps good!

Still feeling a bit dusty?

September 25, 2009

In the spirit of all things dusty, we thought we’d post some works from a great Canadian artist, Cal Lane. Aside from making intricate rug patterns from dirt, Lane also uses her torch to cut baroque patterns into such mundane objects as shovels, Dumpsters and old oil drums.

Big Dog

This is very cool but also very disturbing. It’s funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. DARPA looks like it’s straight out of Lost and was almost definitely the inspiration for the DHARMA Initiative.
